Thiruvananthapuram : The Public Works Department(PWD) in its letter to the National Highway Authority demanded thorough safety in construction of National Highway 66. Only experts must be engaged for carrying out of technical inspections, the letter underscored. The communication was sent by the Secretary of Public Works on directions of Public Works Minister PA Mohamed Riyas.
Inspections should be conducted at sites where landslides have occurred in the wake of mud excavations for National Highway. Also, further mud removals must be done only after scientifically ascertaining they’re as safe, the letter read. The Minister had made similar call for safety at the project review meeting of the highway too.
