Thiruvananthapuram : PWD Houses across state will transform into People’s Rest House, said PWD Minister PA Mohamed Riyas. As part of this, online booking number will become available from 1st of November so the general public can book rooms at these facilities, said the minister.
Commoners can visit portal and book room as per thier need. The new system will work without compromising accommodation needs of government personnel, the minister clarified.
The aim is to make rest houses more people friendly. The majority of accommodation facilities in the state are owned by PWD – a total of 1151 rooms across 153 rest houses. Also, most of them are located at prime locations. Plan has been drawn up to commence renovation of these facilities. It has been decided to renovate 30 rest houses in the first phase. The KTDC Director has been appointed as Nodal Officer for this purpose, the minister said.
It has also been decided to start restaurants at these rest houses. Hygiene shall be emphasised for. It has also been decided to set up Comfort Stations inclusive of toilet facility that will come handy for long-distance travelers. The rest houses will become friendlier with pleasing front-desks facility. Also will be put in place, a centralised system to monitor the rest-house chain, the minister said.
