Special CorrespondentUpdated: Sunday Jun 14, 2020

Thalassery : A RSS leader, employed with CRPF, has been arrested by Pannur police for attempting to kill a CPI(M) worker in Thalassery’s Manakara. The accused -  30-year-old Rahul resident at “Shivaganga” in Vaiyilipeedika, Mahi - had come home on vacation six months ago.

The arrest follows  attempt to murder Kattil Chandran, a  member of CPI(M)’s East Manekara branch and Namathapoyil Vijayan from  Kunnumal Branch in an ambush attack, he carried out on Wednesday night.

Incidentally,  Rahul who  has been  overstaying his   one month vacation  would not return to his CRPF base despite several notices sent by them and instead whiles away time  conducting RSS activities and its attacks.

Earlier, Rahul  was part of the gang that vandalized a cut-out,  set up in Kolayattutheruvu to commemorate the martyrdom of CPI(M) leader Kannipoyil Babu,  and flag poles in the Kattautumm Kodiyeri region. At that time, BJP leaders pleaded to spare him trouble,  citing serious risks to his CRPF job.

And, the latest attack comes even as police remains without making arrests in the cut-out vandalism case  despite incriminating CCTV footage . Incidentally, Rahul is older sibling to 27-year-old Sharath, a member of the gang who murdered Kannipoyil Babu. His father, Kannada Ramakrishnan, has a history of cases including murder charge in the killing  of CPI(M) Panthakal branch member, E P Raveendran.
