Vadakanchery : The construction works of Kuthiran 2nd tunnel, slowed down by heavy rains, has picked up pace once again and is expected to be complete coming March. The speed effected in ongoing works is also owing to interventions made by government to upkeep timeline for the project. In the meeting convened by Thrissur District Collector Harita V Kumar on Tuesday to take stock of progress so far, it was decided to hire more hands and complete construction works speedily.
Also an assessment meeting chaired by Revenu Minister K Rajan, will follow shortly. The gantry concreting for the second tunnel is currently in its final stages and in progress are, road concreting and sewage line works, electrification, following which, electrification and installation of cameras will commence. It is estimated to complete all works by March.
The tunnel project of 2016 lay blockaded owing to negligent attitude of National Highway Authority and the contracting companies and it was after state government intervened that construction of one of the tunnels got complete. The tunnel was laid open on 31st of July.
