Rajya Sabha Seat: Out Of The Blue Nomination From High Command Stuns KPCC, State Hopefuls

Special CorrespondentUpdated: Thursday Mar 17, 2022

Thiruvananthapuram : Amid push and pull among Congress state leaders vying for  Rajya Sabha seat, High Command stuns the state corivals with its out the blue choice.

Elderly veterans like KV Thomas, MM Hassan and the younger set comprising M Liju, VD Balaram etc were actively pushing for the seat when High Command came out with Priyanaka’s confidante Sreenivasan Krishnan’s name, startling everybody. The High Command’s recommendation comes closely after  K Sudhakaran returned from Delhi with M Liju  after meeting with  Rahul Gandhi.

If Sreenivasan Krishnan is included in the state nominees’ list, he is sure to win the draw. Sreenivasan, a former employee with Indian Information Service and longtime director in Robert Vadra’s company, has close connections with AICC leaders. Back in 1995, he was PA to K Karunakaran who was then Industries Minister.  According to information released, Sreenivasan is a Thrissur native aged 57.

In 2018, VM Sudheeran had opposed elating Sreenivasan to AICC Secretary post.

KPCC leadership has M Liju uppermost in his mind. The  propping up M Liju, a  Ramesh Chennithala confidante,  spells setback for Oppn. Leader VD Satheesan who will prefer to  have Satheesan Pacheni, VD Balaram or Shanimol Usman up the list.

Meanwhile, K Sudhakaran is pursuing his push for M Liju. Other leaders too  find it hard to acknowledge the roping-in of Sreenivasan.
