Kochi : The team investigating rape and murder of 5-year-old in Aluva filed FIR in the case today. The chargesheet was filed with District POCSO court. The prosecution has 99 witnesses.
Asfaq Alam is the sole accused in the case. 75 items of evidentiary value such as dress, sandals etc worn by the child and the perpetrator at the time of crime were submitted in court. The 800-page chargesheet is watertight with forensic evidence solidifying charges to ensure conviction. A total of 150 documents are submitted, 100 of which are records from medical examination.
Rural SP Vivek Kumar said an application will be made seeking completion of the trial within 90 days. Adv G Mohanraj is the Special Public Prosecutor. A special team was sent to Bihar and Delhi to gather more details on Alam’s past.
Alam has POCSO case registered against him in Gazipur Dairy Farm police station back in 2018. He was released from jail in a month’s time in that case following which, he fled the State and was declared a fugitive. According to relatives, Alam was sent out of his home for being a regular troublemaker.
The Crime: On 28 July Asafaq Alam, a migrant worker from Bihar, found the 5-year-old girl alone at her home close to Aluva market. Alam lured the child to go with him outside. He brought her a juice from roadside shop and walked her to a secluded spot beyond the railway tracks. There, he brutally raped her and strangled her to death. When parents returned and found the girl missing at home, they raised alarm and a frantic search ensued. Her lifeless body was found inside of a gunny bag 18 hours later from a garbage dump in the market. Alam has been charged on 18 counts including abduction, rape of a minor, murder, etc.
