Thiruvananthapuram : Classification in terms of responsible tourism will begin today for all resorts and hotels of Kerala. Tourists – domestic and foreign – arrive to know and enjoy indigenous culture, history, cuisine, forms of art etc of varied destinations. And, Responsible Tourism Mission aims to provide them with choices at their fingertips, said Tourism Minister Mohamed Riyas.
The Responsible Tourism certification process will scrutinise all resorts and hotels in state to examine how much local participation is involved in the hotel/resorts’ operations, does it promote local cuisine, do they engage women and transgenders etc - these factors will be taken into account for purpose of deciding classification for the hotel/resort.
On its website, the Kerala Tourism department will list and provide details of all hotels and resorts that have been issued the Responsible Classification certificate.
