Thiruvananthapuram : The Cabinet meeting on Wednesday decided to utilise Rs 2 crores received in Chief Minister’s Disaster Relief Fund from prominent businessman Yusuf Ali, for solatium to victim families of the 2016 Puttungal temple fireworks blast.
The next of kin to the 109 victims who died in the fire shall be given Rs 1 lakh each. The 209 who sustained serious injuries shall received Rs 30000 each while 202 persons with minor wounds will receive Rs 14000.
Backdrop : The Puttingal temple in Ernakulam’s Paravur was scene to massive fire when a faulty rocket fell onto a stockpile of firecrackers. Over 100 perished in theblast and ensing fire and hundreds were injured either from fire or the mad scramble that erupted as people tried to save themselves.
