Those arrested by the police are natives to differnet regions of Ernakulam district. 75 people have been charged in the case. The identities of 50 have been ascertained and Rajith continues to remain in hiding, according to reports.
Police are pouring over CCTV footage at the airport to track down all persons who came up to welcome Rajith and resorted to sloganeering later. Police have been instructed to arrest each of those who participated in the event, how many ever in number they might be.
The event is a shame to the Malayali community and is being viewed by govt with utmost concern, said Minister VS Sunil Kumar. The minister was speaking to media, post a meeting held in Kochi to assess Covid-19 situation.
“The govt is looking into the incident surrounding reception accorded to Rajith Kumar at Nedumbassery. The event is one of disgrace to all of us. The police have registered a case, but has not been able to track down Rajith. He remains in hiding. As the entire country rallies to combat the Covid pandemic, certain elements prop up with outrageous gimmicks like this. It is ridiculous. It was a sudden occurence, a flash mob collecting, and shouting slogans. It is acceptable. Govt has also noted Rajith’s remark claiming goodhearted people do not catch Covid.
The CIAL MD has been spoken to about the sudden appearance of a large crowd at the airport. Besides, it is also being probed if certain CIAL employees who posed for selfie with Rajith were in any manner involved with organising the event ,” the minister said.
