Thiruvananthapuram : The government has lend permission to withdraw cases of non-criminal nature relating to incidents in the aftermath of  Supreme Court’s verdict on Sabarimla, said Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan in the Assembly on Tuesday, adding that, permission has also been granted for pulling back cases relating to incidents following Centre’s amendment to Citizens Act. CM was responding to the Opposition Leader VD Satheesan’s submission in the House.

Instructions were issued to the state DGP, District Police Chiefs and concerned Collectors to examine the status of various  cases and nature of charges involved. Following this, the state DGP formed a committee comprising Crime Branch IG, Police Superintendents from Special Cell and SCRB to evaluate the cases on hand. This committee is entrusted with withdrawal of all eligible cases.

Each case shall be individually examined  and withdrawn after due consent from the court. Ultimately, it is courts that reserve right to allow such withdrawals and since the matter falls under court jurisdiction, the government’s say in this matter has  limitations.   Even so, proceedings on side of the government are being sped up, said CM.
