Kasaragod : In what appears to be synchronised strategy to derail trains, boulders, iron slabs and sticks were found placed on railway tracks in several parts in the district. A high-level probe team of RPF, helmed by Palakkad Division Safety Commissioner, Jitin B Raj, has arrived in Kasaragod to investigate the sabotage attempt..
The team visited the spots where iron slabs and boulders lay. As a first measure, the engineering section would be directed to remove all redundant steel and concrete material left behind near tracks.
Several small roads leading to tracks including bushes close to Kottikulam railway station are late-night haunts for boozers and anti-socials. RPF team held talks with the district police chief Dr. Vaibhav Saxena. The team also made discussions with railway officials.
To make up for manpower shortages, RPF staff in other districts who might have worked in Kasaragod shall be brought back here, the Commissioner said. Also, night-time patrolling shall be intensified in stations between Kumbalam and Kanhangad. In the discussions the RPF and police held, it was decided to seek public rapport to enhance track safety.
