Thiruvananthapuram : It’s back to cabinet for Saji Cherian after a brief hiatus. The announcement came from CPI(M) State Secretary MV Govindan who told the media that the decision for Cherian’s return was taken by CPI(M) State Secretariat that met yesterday.
The oath-taking date will be decided by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan after getting to know of the Governor’s convenience, said Govindan.
Saji Cherian, the MLA from Chengannur, was Minister of fisheries and Culture in the second Pinarayi Cabinet. He stepped down as minister following row over his remarks relating to the Constitution.
Controversy sparked surrounding a speech Saji Cherian made at Mallapally on 3 July. A couple of comments on the Constitution was pick on and a petition in court ensued following which, Saji Cherian tendered resignation on moral grounds. The court later rejected the petitions seeking removal of Cherian from his MLA post.
