Manama : The Saudi-led coalition fighting against Yemen’s Houthi militia said it intercepted 10 explosives-laden drones launched towards Saudi Arabia on Sunday for the second day running.

The Iran-aligned Houthis have twice carried out drone attacks on Saudi Arabia in less than five hours, according to Al Arabiya TV. The block has destroyed five drones earlier on Sunday morning. It has intercepted five more drones that were launched targeting the country later in the day, the channel reported.

The coalition reiterated that it continues to work to protect civilians in line with international law.

The Houthis have been intensifying their attacks on Saudi Arabia and Yemen because coalition forces have made significant advances in Marib, coalition spokesman Colonel Turki al-Maliki said.

This strike is the latest Houthi attack against Saudi, following sporadic attempted attacks on various locations in the country in recent weeks.

The Houthis have stepped up the cross-border drone and missile attacks on Saudi cities recently, mostly targeting the southern part of the country, which borders Yemen. The Kingdom has intercepted hundreds of drones and ballistic missiles fired from Yemen so far. At least seven civilians were injured in the Houthi attacks this past week, Saudi Arabian authorities said.

On Saturday, the coalition said it had intercepted two explosive-laden drones targeting the southern cities of Khamis Mushait and Jazan.

The coalition has been fighting the Iran-aligned group in Yemen since 2015.
