Thiruvananthapuram : The State Bank of India will not hire women who are more than three months pregnant. The category will also be ineligible for promotion, said the biggest banker in its latest circular. The bar does not however apply to SC/ST candidates.
However the ineligibility shall be deemed temporary and those exceeding three months of pregnancy can join service after four months of delivery.
Interestingly, in its circular of 2009, SBI stated that pregnancy does not amount to disqualification provided there was doctor’s certificated stating that carrying out of office duties would not harm the pregnancy or health of the mother in any way.
