Erattupetta : SDPI goons in Erattupetta tried to kill CPI(M) worker R Noor Salam, - a member of Thekkekara Branch Committee. The incident took place this morning.
Noorsalam was on his way home on scooter after running an errand. When he passed in front of Aruvithura College, SDPI workers who lay in wait at the spot, ambushed him. The assailants first hit Noorsalam on his hands using iron rod in a bid to take hold of his scooter. As he managed to ride a few feet further, they struck his legs with the rod. Salam evntually lost control of the vehicle and fell to the ground, up on which, the SDPI men thrashed him brutally with iron rod and hacked him using sharp weapons . Using his hands, he managed to fend off one attacker who tried to stab him, in the process of which, he sustained severe injuries to his hands.
Salam was initially admitted to a private hospital in Erattupetta. However, owing to critical injuries, he was later moved to Kottayam medical college.
