New Delhi :The Supreme Court rejected actor Dileep’s proposition in his plea seeking to block Prosecution from cross-examining witnesses including his ex-wife Manju Warrier once again, in connection with actress assault case of 2017. The Supreme Court clarified the Prosecution could go ahead with questioning these witnesses.
Bench headed by Justice JK Maheshwari heard the actor's petition,observing that the apex court does not interfere with cross-examination of witnesses. However, the Bench observed that the questioning should be completed soon enough. The petition will be heard again on 14th.
The State government informed the court yesterday that it wished to have key witnesses re-examined, adding that the defendant’s plea was tactic to prolong trial.
Four witnesses, including Manju Warrier will undergo cross-examination now. Thee purpose: to substantiate digital evidences Dileep had destroyed. The govt also assured ending of examining proceedings within 30 working days.
The Case : On 17 February, 2017, the survivor, a popular actress, was on way from her Thrissur home iwhen she was waylaid on the outskirts of Kochi by a gang. After car-jacking, the prime accused, Pulsar Suni, molested her and captured visuals of the act on a mobile The entire crime is alleged to have been perpetrated at behest of actor Dileep.
