Thodupuzha : Police in Thodupuzha arrested seven miscreants on Friday for brutally thrashing a Janayugum daily correspondent from Idukki. Those arrested are : Sashthampara native residing at Puliparambu, Bipin(27), Neyassery native from Keezhpuraykkal, Arjun Aji(21), Ezhaloor native residing at Perumbarayil, Shemanto(19), Shastampar native from Kuttalikkal, Syam(21), Neyyasserry native from Karakananal, Aromal Shaji(21) and Karikode native from Karakenel, Shinil(23).
The youth were nabbed from Ambalapadi in Vannapuram, with aid of inputs from Cyber Cell. The police team was led by Sub Inspector Sinod who said, the culprits had a history of drug abuse and brawls. They have been booked on charges of attempted murder in the present incident.
With hints to their lurking in Vannappuram, policemen in plain clothes surrounded the gang. Though two boys tried to flee and escape, they were soon overpowered by the cops. The journalist, who sustained injuries to head, eyes and face was brought to the police station with permission from the doctor at the hospital. There, he identified the culprits one by one, as his attackers. The gang had ambushed the Janayugum reporter while on way to his home on the night of 31 August. All seven have been remanded.
The team that captured the culprits comprised SI Sinod and Civil Police Officers, Jobin Kurien, Ajins and Vijaayanand.
