Kavalangad : The Kavalangad rape victim wrote to Congress's national leadership for action against Ernakulam District Secretary Shan Muhammad, co-accused in case of raping and impregnating her as a minor. Copies of the letter were sent to Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi, Shashi Tharoor, Youth Congress State President, Shafi Parambil and MLA Mathew Kuzhalnadan.
Although arraigned in the case, Congress leadership has a protective stance on Shan Muhammad. In her letter, the girl also spoke of death threats to her and family, should they pursue with the case. Congress also twice took out march to police station seeking to protect Shan Muhammad in the case.
Nobody else should undergo the ordeal she did, said the victim in her letter and asked for Shan Muhammad to be ousted from the party. “I trust you. You must help us get justice”, the girl wrote. Despite the incident, Shan continues to retain his post as party’s Panchayat Youth Coordinator. The Youth Congress District Committee too is on side with Shan.
The first accused Riyas in currently in remand. Probe findings show how Shan Muhammad had abducted the girl into his vehicle and administered abortion pills.
