Wayanad: The Ombudsman ordered daughter of a Congress ward member to refund money she had pocketed on falsified records she put into the Employment Guarantee Scheme toward constructing houses for flood-hit tribals.
Drawn up for action is Ashwathy - daughter of M Latika who is member of the 17th ward in Velamunda Panchayat - who received money she was not eligible for.
Ashwathy is required to repay Rs 7204. She is a college student and signed the muster roll under Employment Scheme falsely, including on days she was attending classes at college. The Ombudsman observed that Aswathy’s mother had connived with the fraud. The house construction contract was awarded to Ashwathi’s father. She had forged signatures for tribals who were assigned labour, namely Muthuvelukan, Mundiotupoil and Mundathibalan of Prahaanmala. Several, including, DYFI had approached Ombudsman on the matter.
