Wayanad: The Ombudsman ordered daughter of a Congress ward member to refund money she had pocketed on falsified records she put  into the  Employment Guarantee Scheme toward constructing houses for flood-hit tribals.

Drawn up for action is Ashwathy - daughter of M Latika who is member of the 17th ward in Velamunda Panchayat - who  received money she was not eligible for.

Ashwathy  is required to repay Rs 7204. She is a college student and signed the muster roll under Employment Scheme falsely, including on days she was  attending classes at  college. The Ombudsman observed that Aswathy’s mother had connived with the fraud.  The house construction contract was awarded to Ashwathi’s father. She had forged signatures for tribals who were assigned labour, namely Muthuvelukan, Mundiotupoil and Mundathibalan of Prahaanmala.
