Kayamkulam : The slain CPI(M) worker Siyad's   friend, also a Siyad,  who survived the Tuesday's knife attack was teary as he recounted the gory scene from the fateful night. “Don’t kill me. I have two children,” slain Siyad had pleaded to the killers said Pullimuttil Siyad. There was no mercy however and Vettu Mujeeb plunged the knife into Siyad’s body multiple times, he  said.

The assailants then turned on him, hitting him  repeatedly with an iron rod breaking his leg.  It was a planned ambush and  someone had passed information on their return homeward from quarantine centre , said slain Siyad. Responding to the commotion,  people in the neighbourhood flocked to the scene and rushed them both to the hospital.

The main culprit, Vettu Mujeeb, hanged around in bloodied clothes in the area and was picked up by Block Secretary cum Municipal Councilor, Kaavi Niwas, who rode him away  on his scooter.

Siyad sells  fish for a living and had returned home at night after work before leaving to deliver food parcels prepared by his wife Khadeeja at quarantine centre on Tuesday. His daughters - five-year-old daughter Ayisha and one-year-old Hayera - were still awake when he left.

When Siyad failed to return after long, Hayera asked for him several times before going to sleep. My son has no known enemies and yet was killed in this manner, said Siyad’s aged father Rajan in a quivering voice.
