Thiruvananthapuram : There’s a slight spike of Covid cases in State, said Health Minister Veena George. There were 172 new infections were reported on Tuesday. Thiruvananthapuram and Ernakulam districts have most cases. There are a total of 1026 active cases in state at present, of which, 111 are under treatment in hospitals. All districts have been alerted to step up surveillance, the minister said.
The minister chaired a high-level meeting to assess Covid situation in State. The Health department is monitoring the case tally on daily basis. No Covid clusters have formed up to now in the State. Districts and hospitals must prepare Surge Plan toward upping facilities. . In view of the increase in the number of Covid patients, the minister also directed to further reserve ICU and ventilator systems. Genomic tests will be increase to detect new variants. There has been no increase in number of Covid cases in hospitals. The KMSCL has been directed to arrange for test kits and medicines in adequate quantities, the minister said.
The new variant of Covid is more contagious. So self-protection is paramount. One should mask in public places to prevent Covid. People with other health conditions, the elderly, children and pregnant women should take added care and ensure wearing mask outdoors and properly, the minister said, adding that, masking would compulsory to enter hospital premises.
