On Sunday, Smita Menon accorded welcome to Modi reaching  VIP slot at the function. The  maneuver kicked up wide controversy. Debates spiraled around how the new face, Smita Menon, received permission to greet PM, given that the privilege is granted only to veteran leaders.

Smita Menon had posted pictures of her greeting PM on her Facebook page,  triggering heated debates around it  in BJP and Sanghparivar circles . Smita coming to occupy top-notch post in Mahila Morcha despite lacking party experience had run into controversy earlier.

She also hit news earlier taking part  alongside V Muraleedharan in a meeting of diplomats and foreign ministers in Abu Dhabi. Later, following local body election results in state, RSS magazine Kesari featured Smita Menon on its cover page. Then even as a section of party workers prepared to question the move, there arose accusation that    some leaders were lending unwarranted prominence to Smita Menon, with aim to grow her politically. According to inside sources, efforts are actively on to allot her a seat in Ernakulam district in the Assembly elections.
