Rajapuram : Late night on 21st of July, neighbours heard cries for help coming from a house in Kasaragod’s Panathoor. However, with the house quarantined for monitoring purposes, people gathered outside hesitated to reach out to the family. Inside, the couple’s one-and-half-year old child had been bitten by a snake and its venom steadily overpowering.
Throwing up vigil, the CPI(M) Branch Secretary Jinil Mathew, rushed to the scene and cradled the traumatised child in his arms. He then summoned an ambulance for Pariyaram Medical college where, the doctors quickly administered anti-venom. The child had been bitten by viper, the potentially fatal and highly venomous snake that spells maximum deaths in Kerala. With timely medical intervention, the child slowly recovered and passed the critical stage.
However, up on recovery, the mandatory test for Covid-19 conducted on the child showed positive for the virus. Jinil has since, self-quarantined himself following and currently remains under observation.
Jinil is CITU Convener for Headload General Workers’ Union in Panathoor. The incident eventually earned Jinil wide media attention and felicitations from party seniors.
