Kochi: : CBI filed FIR against five Congress leaders including Oomen Chandy in the molestation case related to Solar scam. Congress leaders arraigned in the case apart from Oomen Chandy are : MLA K.C Venugopal, MP Hibi Eden, MLA A. P. Anil Kumar, MLA Anil Kumar and MP Adoor Prakash.
BLP national Vice President A. P. Abdullakutty is also named as accused in the FIR registered with CJA Court in Kochi. The government forwarded the case over to CBI t following the victim woman’s complaint to the Chief Minister. The Additional Secretary published notification in January on handing of six related Crime Branch cases to the CBI following which, the agency registered the case and began investigations.
The alleged incident in the case dates back to UDF tenure, when the woman entrepreneur of Team Solar, operating as part of the UDF government’s solar power project, was sexually molested at the official residence of Oomen Chandy and several other venues.
Crime Branch cases transferred to CBI are case no. 14/2018 against KC Venugopal, 43/2018 against Hibi Eden, 141/2019 against Adoor Prakash and 142/2019 against Anil Kumar. These cases were registered based on recommendations of the special judicial commission appointed by the UDF government with regard to the complaint made by molestation victim.
A case of rape - 128/CRHHW1/TVM - was registered against Abdullakutty back in 2016 during Oomen Chandy’s tenure as Chief Minister. Cantonment Asst. Commissioner had probed the case before it was shifted to Crime Branch. Abdullakutty had recorded his secret testimony in front of magistrate in the case.
