New Delhi : Space for expression of dissenting view is shrinking around the country, said Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan. The Chief Minister was speaking at ceremony conferring TVR Shenoy Award for excellence in journalism posthumously to E Somanath. A climate is building up where, those with opposing voice could be potentially jailed. It is not eliminating differing views that’s to be done. Rather, their tensions should be used as medium to create awareness, said CM.
Shenoy showed keenness to bring out Kerala’s developmental plans to the fore, said CM. The new generation journalists should grasp this. Even while maintaining ties with the BJP, Shenoy never shove aside truth in his news, CM added. In a crucial Lok Sabha election, while BJP rode high on hopes of winning, Shenoy wrote that the Party was heading for debacle. He incurred displeasure of BJP leaders on this account. Shenoy was a journalist who loved his land and welfare of its people, and was always proud of being a Keralite.
This award is attribute to Somanath whose only interest was journalism., said CM. Speakers at the event were : Prof. KV Yhomas presided over the function. Auxiliary Bishop Deepak Valerian Toro, George Cullivyalil, Jomi Thomas and N Ashokan.
