Special Investigation Set UP Into Deaths Of 8 Malayalis In Nepal

KATMANDU : The government of Nepal announced special investigations into the deaths of eight Malayalis in Daman.  For the purpose, the Tourism Ministry set up a special probe team to determine the exact cause that ended lives of two couples and their four children, inside their resort room during the intervening night of 20 January.

The bodies stored at Teaching Hospital are being  autopsied in the  session that began 9 am this morning.

The Foreign Affairs Ministry informed that arrangements are in place to expedite transportation of the bodies to home state of Kerala. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Monday  had written to the Ministry seeking  necessary intervention to speed up procedures.

The eight Malayalis found dead in Daman, 60 km from Katmandu, were NRIs who belonged to a group of 15 tourists that had travelled from Kerala to Nepal for vacationing. They were found motionless on Monday morning and airlifted to nearby hospital, where they were declared dead upon arrival.

Police suspect gas leak from a heater in the room, the family might have switched on, in the extremely cold weather. They await postmortem results to determine the exact cause..

The deceased were identified as Praveen Krishnan Nair(39), Saranya (34), Ranjit Kumar TB(39) Indu Ranjit (34). Sreebhadra (9) , Vaisnav Ranji(2) Abhi Nair (7) and  Abhinav (9)
