Thiruvananthapuram : The Health Minister Veena George announced appointment of special medical teams under the Health Department in connection with Attukal Pongala. 10 medical teams equipped with an ambulance will be deployed at different locations from 5 am on the day up to the end of Pongala.
Control Rooms of the Health Department and Food Safety Dept have been set up. The arrangements from the Health Department are elaborate, given the tens of thousands comprising woman and children that will throng into the city for Pongala. The minister urged that these emergency units be availed by all those who might feel the need at any point after their arrival.
The arrangements have been made via Thiruvananthapuram District Medical office. Doctors, nursing staff and nursng assistants would be present at Attukal temple right from 7 am morning up to night 10 pm. Services of 8 members including Health Inspectors have been made available to supervise health activities for the public at Pongala. The government, private and medical college hospitals have been instructed to make necessary arrangements so as to be able to meet any emergency that might arise during Pongala.
Pressed into service are : 35 Health Dept ambulances, Kanvi 108. Corporation, IMA, Private Hospitals and Fire Force. Services of larger number of doctors and ambulances have been deployed.
