First Open University By Name Of Sree Narayana Guru: Inaugural On Gandhi Jayanti

Thiruvananthapuram : In a first, Kerala will inaugurate an open university that takes its name after the revered social reformer, Sree Narayana Guru. The announcement was made by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Thursday. The new open university will come into being on Gandhi Jayanti, the 2nd of October and will be headquartered in the state’s oldest city of Kollam.

The new university will integrate four existing forums imparting degree education. Education at the varsity will be open to all age groups. For those unable to pursue an entire course, there would be  provision to provide certification up to the level completed.

A faculty comprised of outstanding professors -  both at national and international level - would be a major highlight of the new university. The government will facilitate sharing of labs and other  amenities of aided colleges, for students enrolled in  the upcoming university.

Apart from conventional courses, the varsity will  offer skill development courses too  - a  feature set to pioneer  change in the field of university education, said CM.
