State Funding : Kerala To Have 11,880 Km ‘Smart Roads’ ; Rs 961 Crores From Disaster Relief

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM : Roads battered by floods shall be rebuild into ‘smart roads’ utilising RS 962.24 crore from the Chief Minister’s Disaster Relief Fund. The decision came about at a cabinet meeting chaired by the CM.  An estimated road stretch 11,880 km have been damaged by floods.


 

Funds are being released for rural roads damaged by massive floods and landslides of  2018 massive followed by torrential rains in 2019. Also bridges, weighbridges and culverts shall be restored as part of road building.  The works will commence in April – May.

Local Committees shall be set up to oversee rebuilding activities. Also Expert Committees shall be formed at district level comprising engineers from local self bodies.
