State Govt Not Signatory To Any Agreement; Chennithala’s Shots Empty of Bullets: Mercykutty Amma

Web Desk‌Updated: Saturday Feb 20, 2021

Kochi The Opposition leader is firing shots empty of  bullets, said  Fisheries Minister, J Mercykutty Amma. “He has been aiming such shots for a  long time now,  with each going to waste all the time. According to him, an agreement has been drawn to hand trawling to EMCC.  Mercykutty Amma held discussions  for this, he claims. The truth is govt has not signed any document to the effect to-date,” said the minister.

Routinely parties come and go  with requests and applications. There has been no change to govt policy on the matter however. The govt has a long-standing opposition to deep Sea-fishing .  Permission for foreign trawlers was  introduced  under  UAPA  govt.  Left opposed that policy as it does till today. Thus Chennithala’s claims are meaningless.

Chennithala first claimed that discussions were held in a visit to America.  He later changed the story to discussions being venued  here. He is  changing versions all the time. I hope  Chennithala corrects his statement  and offers an apology.  Rahul Gandhi is scheduled to meet with fish workers on the 24th . And, the brag is meant as rehearsal for the event, said the minister.
