State’s Education System Undergoing Big Reforms : CM

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM : Big reforms are happening in the State’s education system, said Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan. Equipped with computer labs and library, the classrooms have transformed to match international standards, he said at the inaugural of  Thiruvananthapuram District Panchayat’s “Sargvayana Sampoorna Vayana” - a project designed to provide inbuilt classroom libraries.  

The government aims to encourage wide reading. The students must attempt to read avidly all books taken  from classroom libraries. Learning imparted by teachers and school texts books are important.  However, there is nothing like books to build on one’s knowledge. Whatever the background, the experience rendered by book reading is special in its own right, CM said.

Alongside print, electronic media too offers reading avenues now. And classrooms are bracing to provide all facilities possible. It was proposed to collect 5 lakh books as part of “Sargvayana Sampoorna Vayana” however the collection has now crossed 8 lakh in number. It is an example of our people’s willingness to help for a common cause.  The District Panchayat is also trying to make available books from libraries with proximity to schools, CM said. 

The Minister for Education Prof C Ravindranath, who presided at the function said, the govt is working to equip all classrooms with libraries before June.  On advent of upcoming academic year, the public education will enter  a whole new phase. Classes from I to XII are being made hi-tech,. The aim is to provide high quality education. Public education would be blend of popular trend, humane approach and modernism, the minister said.

The Thiruvananthapuram District Panchayat envisaged  “Sargvana Sampoorna Vayana”  project to equip all classrooms with libraries. as part of efforts to to protect the public education system. 8 lakh books have come in contributions meant for setting up libraries in 10,681 classrooms across 988 schools.
