Thiruvananthapuram : In the wake of rising anti-woman occurrences, CPI(M) will launch “Streepaksha Keralam” - a campaign aimed to spread wide awareness on safety, care and protection avenues for women. Streepaksha Keralam is slated to take off on 1st next week.
At its meeting, the party Secretariat decided for a week-long awareness drive for the campaign which will comprise several exercises including door-to-door visits, said CPI(M) acting secretary A. Vijayaraghavan at the press briefing. All units and members of the party will become part of the drive. When the campaign ends , events in adherence to Covid protocol will be organised at local level on the following day of 8th across the state. Streepaksha Keralam will see participation from youth, students and individuals from socio-cultural circles.
At the meeting Friday, the State Secretariat discussed recent violence perpetrated against women, dowry deaths and their social consequences. These occurrences weaken advancement of women recorded at academic and career places in the state, the meeting opined. Conservative attitudes are gaining ground. On the rise is also propaganda on minority-majority communal passions, far right concepts and conservative perceptions. Given that these views are finding societal acceptance too in a limited way, it is imperative that issues relating to gender-equality make inroads into public discussions. There is need for a change in people’s mindset at large, the reason why CPI(M) is launching the campaign, said Vijayaraghavan, urging for the wider community in state to cooperate with the effort.
