Thrissur  As summer sizzles, temperature in Thrissur soars to record-high of 42.90 °C. The high point was recorded Thursday at Vellanikkara Meterorlogical Centre in the district. This is the highest ever temperature on record since thermometer came to be installed in Vellankkara in the early eighties.

Steep decrease in summer rains are reason for this extreme heat, said meteorologist Gokaakumar Cholai. Unlike this time, Thrissur saw fair amounts of rain during March- April. The district received only 11 mm rains from 1 March to 13 April while that figure in normal course should have been 55.10 - a neat percent cut.

The heatwave buildup in North India has spiked temperatures in Thrissur and adjoining areas. If there be no rains in coming days, the heat is bound to rise further, said Cholai.
