THIRUVANANTHAPURAM : Marking another milestone in healthcare, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Wednesday announced opening of cancer treatment centre in every district in the State. These facilities were opened to override difficulties posed by lockdown conditions for patients seeking cancer therapies, the minister said.
The treatment chain is first of its kind in India. Cancer patients have lower immunity levels and the district level facilities are opened with a view to save them long-distance travel and vulnerability to infections including Covid, said the minister.
Cancer treatments can be now be availed from centres at General Hospital in Thiruvananthapuram; District Hospital, Kollam; Taluk Hospital, Punalur; Kozhencherry District Hospital, Pathanamthitta; General Hospital, Alappuzha; District Hospital, Mavelikkara; Pala General Hospital; Kottayam District Hospital; Idukki-Thodupuzha District Hospital; General Hospital, Ernakulam; General Hospital, Muvattupuzha; General Hospital, Thrissur; District Hospital, Palakkad; Taluk Hospital, Ottapalam; ECDC, Kanjikode ; District Hospital, Malappuram; Thirur-Nilambur District Hospital; Beach Hospital, Kozhikode; Nalmrnaad Tribal Hospital, Wayanad; District Hospital, Kannur; General Hospital, Thallassery and Kanjangaad District Hospital, Kasaragod.
Though these district-level centres would initially function in liaison with RCC, Thiruvananthapuram, arrangements are underway to line them up with existing Regional Cancer Centres by expanding operations at the latter, said Health Minister KK Shailaja.
