New Delhi : Main culprit in Suryanelli rape case, Dharmarajan, gets bail from Supreme Court. The bail was granted by Bench headed by Justice Kaul. The state government argued strongly against allowing Dharmaran to walk out on bail citing his previous history of jumping bail.
Dharmarajan is convicted with life imprisonment in gangrape case and could disappear again if allowed bail, the government had argued. Also, he is likely to threaten the victim, the govt lawyer informed the court. Dharmarajan went into hiding for seven years when granted bail in 2005. He was later nabbed from Karnataka in 2013. The bail came over outbreak of covid at Poojapura jail where the culprit is currently lodged.
