Malappuram : The Muslim League leadership should clarify its stand on Jamaat-e-Islami’s celebratory viewpoint on takeover of Afghanistan by the Taliban terrorists, demanded a press note from CPI(M) District Secretary in Malabar.
In the party daily Madhyamam, Jamaat-e-Islami has described Taliban-seized Afghanistan as “independent Afghanistan”. The usage is reflective of Jamaat’s stand on Taliban. The Congress leadership should clarify if it endorses the viewpoint divulged by its ally.
Jamaat’s enchantment with religious politics is not new.. They have celebrated Taliban in the past too. When Taliban assassinated the Afghan President Najibullah, Madhyamam had headlined it as “Taliban’s like miracle(വിസ്മയം പോലെ താലിബാൻ)”. The current take is a continuation of that trend. The League, on its part, must clarify if it agrees with such radical viewpoint.
Jamaat-e-Islami has functioned as League’s ally during the last local body and Assembly electionsr. Unlike in the past, League went open about its association with Jamaat-e-Islami. Aiming to defeat CPI(M) somehow, the League showed no qualms about forging ties with radical outfits. It betrayed the Muslim community for sake of four votes. Today, when Jamaat reveals its pro-Taliban stand, the League leadership is obliged to clarify its take on the topic.
League should make known if they share Jamaat’s viewpoint on Taliban. If it doesn't, it should become ready to reject it. The League leadership should show zeal to end ties with such destructive forces that pose challenge to secular society, said the district secretary further in the press note.
