Palakkad : In the local body elections being held Saturday, CPI(M) is contesting in over 600 wards as part of DMK-led secular front.
At two places, CPI(M) candidates emerged winners without opposition, namely in Chinaknalayam nagar, Kedesalaum in Tirupur district and PM Murukan from Thirunelvieli’s Nankenerry Rural Panchayat.
Overall, there were 218 candidates statewide who were elected without opposition.
DMK mainly confronted AIADMK across the wards. BJP and PMKK are contesting on their own.
Election campaign led by Chief Minister MK Stalin saw zealous participation from Kannimozhi MP, CPI(M) State Secretary K Balkrisnan, Politburo memer G radhakrishnan, and CPI State Secretary R Muthuresan and others.
