Thiruvananthapuram : MP Shasi Tharoor did not bother to pay a visit either during the search or to the victim’s house at any point. The local MP lives on social media alone, slammed  Minister V Sivankutty, speaking in context of the gruesome tragedy at Amayizhanchan canal in Thiruvananthapuram, where a sanitation worker hired by the Railways was swept away and died in the murky waste-filled waters and Tharoor, whose constituency it is, never showed up once despite being present in the State.

Met by media after handing over the government’s solatium to the victim Chirstopher Joy’s mother, Minister V Sivankutty was commenting on Tharoor’s posts on FB – the only response that ever came from the local MP in the wake of the tragedy.

Critical of Opposition Leader, the Minister said “VD Satheesan who shouts just whatever he feels like, never once came to the tragedy site while the search was on, nor turn up at Joy’s home when he was found dead. Later, when criticism got rife, he made up his mind to visit there, the Minister said.

Context: The media quizzed Shashi Tharoor, asking why he did not show up at any point while or after the Amayizhanchan tragedy unfolded. Tharoor responded saying, he was caught up in Wayanad and later at KPCC meeting and that he put two Facebook posts in response to the tragedy. There’s nothing more for an MP to do in such cases, he told the reporters.
