New Delhi : The 48-hour nationwide strike run by the working class to free the country from the communal - corporate nexus concluded in high spirits. Workers in all sectors pushed strike into its second day with doubled fervour and criticisms and intimidations along failed to dampen their raging protests.
In capitals of Maharashtra, Assam, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Haryana and Delhi, workers from companies including the multinationasl ground operations to a halt. The strike affected work in jute and estate plantation sector as well. Construction and beedi workers, and roadside vendors joined road picketing. Young employees in the central services sector too participated in the strike demanding a roll back of the government’s new pension policy. The bandh held strong on its second day in the sectors of power, oil and transport.
Greater number of transport workers joined strike on its second day in Jharkhand. Picketing was intense in front of oil refineries in Assam. Bndh took form of hartal in Pudhucherry. At thousands of centres across the country, people in thousands took part in the protest and rail-road picketing. In Delhi, thousands of workers partook in the meeting and demonstrations held there.
Farm workers, women students and youth showed up in backing. On call from Samyukta Kissan Morcha, the farmers conducted gramin strike across villages.
The working class establishments lend solidarity with the strike, one that captured global attention. Workers of cargo ships - both anchored at ports and those at sea - expressed solidarity for the strike. The World Federation of trade Unions also conveyed support and solidarity for the strike. The CITU called for strengthening of workers’ unity and passing it to grassroots.
Kerala : The 2-day strike in Kerala was total with over 1.28 crore people bringing work sector to full halt.
