Web Desk(Tvm)Updated: Friday Feb 17, 2023

Thiruvananthapuram : The four-lane Greenfield highway of  Thiruvananthapuram-Angamali running parallel to MC Road would become connected with the Vizhinjam Navakulam Outer Ring Road. Stone laying of Greenfield highway,  mapped to pass five districts, will begin this year, the National Highways Authority  announced.. Units overseen by Deputy Collector will be formed across these districts for the purpose of land acquisition.

Although Geenfield is not included into the Centre’s Bharat Mala scheme, the National Highway Authority (NHA) will built it as its own separate project. The State govt will lend full support towards land acquisition. It is mulled for Greenfield route to begin from Aruvikkara in Thiruvananthapuram district to Pulimath in Kilimanoor. The proposed Vizhinjam-Navaikulam Outer Ring Road also passes through this segment. The pathway alignment would thus change.

Alignment for first phase of the  highway to begin at Aruvikkara and terminate in Angamali had been prepared earlier. The length was roughly  240 km requiring over a thousand hectares of land spanning 79 villages. The DPR was prepared by Bhopal-based Highway Engineering Consultants.

The Bhopal agency also completed pre-stone survey and route map for the highway. The Land Acquisition Committee of the National Highways Authority will take final decision in this regard.
