Thiruvananthapuram> Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Saturday stated that the media is engaging in destructive journalism. He claimed that the media in the State has become a controversy manufacturing factory. He was addressing the issue of fake news reported by the media regarding the memorandum released in the context of the landslide disaster in Wayanad.
The Chief Minister said that Kerala has been marginalized due to fake news. “Following the media's dissemination of inaccurate information, a false narrative suggesting that Kerala is trying to obtain undeserved aid has arisen. The opposition has capitalized on these reports. The primary aim of this misinformation is to discredit the state government,” the Chief Minister said.
Asserting that the memorandum drafted following the disaster was created by experts, not by ministers, the Chief Minister pointed out that the media has misrepresented the figures provided by these experts. He clarified that the numbers in the memorandum are not exaggerated but are expected estimates. While Kerala is trying to recover from the disaster in Wayanad, the media's focus has shifted to competition to increase channel ratings, he added.
