Thripunitura :Three more have been arrested in the rape of plus one student involving the school’s male teacher. Arrested are : School Principal Shivakala and teachers Shylaja and Jospeh.
The additional arrests come for not contacting the police despite knowledge of the rape that occured.. The rapist teacher, Kiran Karunakaran(43) - residing in Nadukakallayil Veedu in Pattmattom - was arrested from his home last evening.
The grisly incident took place on 16th. The girl belongs to a poor family that could not afford the travel expenses involved to participate in sub-district kalotsavam. Kiran Krishnan, took the opportunity for his twisted plan and offered to reach the girl and fetch her back from the festival on his bike. After the Kalotsavam, as they returned through late evening, the accused stopped at an isolated stretch in Ponnurunni – Karimukal and raped the girl. The girl reported the incident to teachers next day. The school authorities however kept the matter to themselves. It is when the girl narrated her ordeal to her friends at school, that police were alerted.
