Trekker Babu Hauled To Safety; Reaches Hilltop With His Army Rescuers

Palakkad : Trekker trapped in a rocky crevice on Karbachi Hill, Malambuzha was rescued by army this morning at the end of an operation lasting 2 days.

Babu, starved for 45 hours during his ordeal,   was offered food and water before the army team fetched him out the mountainous trap. Babu was part of a group that took to climbing the steep mountain Monday morning . Those with him abandoned the trek owing to the hazardous climb.  Babu pursued the climb and went on to reach atop, but soon slipped downward and became stranded in the momentary safety of  a crevice of the rocky mountain wall.

 On directions from the Chief Minister, several forces including army, NDRF and Fire Force reached the spot. Ambulances stood by throught the operation for medical assistance. Babu was fitted with safety belt by his rescuers before being hauled to the mountain top. Apart from a few bruises, Babu was initially  found to be in good condition. However, he reportedly coughed some blood arousing concerns about his health.

The rescue team reached Babu around 8 am this morning and made their way out with him  close to 9.30. The army team comprised experienced mountaineers who had begun trekking up the steep mountain early morning. The operation  was headed by Lt col Hemant Ranjith.

Babu will be ferried by helicopter to District Medical Hospital for treatment .
