Two die from Coronavirus in Bahrain and Saudi, raising GCC death toll to 8; infections cases to 2290

Manama:  Two people in Bahrain and Saudi Arabia on Wednesday died of COVID-19, the infection that has killed more than 20,000 people worldwide in the last three months.  This is the fourth death in Bahrain and the second in Saudi Arabia due to novel Coronavirus (COVID-19). The death toll from Coronavirus has risen to eight in the Gulf.

Bahraini man, aged 78, who suffered from underlying and chronic health conditions was the Kingdom’s fourth Coronavirus -related death, Bahrain News Agency announced on Wednesday night. The deceased, who had contracted the virus after being in contact with another active COVID-19 case, was placed in isolation and received extensive 24-hour treatment from a specialised medical team, according to a Ministry Health's statement carried by the Bahrain News Agency.

The same day Bahrain reported  14 new cases of the virus infection, taking the total infections in the kingdom to 225. The ministry announced that out of these coronavirus cases, one of them in critical condition. 12 people have been discharged in the Kingdom, taking the recovery tally in to 190, which was highest recovery rate in the GCC, which shows the kingdom's robust and state-of-the-art medical facility.

Saudi Arabia on Wednesday announced the second death due to coronavirus in the country, and 133 new cases of the virus, bringing the tally to 900.

A 46-year-old expatriate from the holly city of Mecca was the latest victim of virus, becoming Saudi Arabia’s second death, according to a Ministry of Health's spokesman.

According to the kingdom's state-run Saudi Press Agency, the national tally of positive cases now stands at 900 after 133 people were diagnosed with the disease in Saudi Arabia on Wednesday. Out of the 133 new cases, 83 cases were reported in the capital city Riyadh alone.

The first death from COVID-19 in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia was reported on Tuesday; the victim was a 51 year old Afghan expatriate worker from Madinah.

Meanwhile, COVID-19 infections and deaths continued Wednesday to rampage in the Middle East and the Gulf, prompting authorities to take more stringent measures to combat virus. The number of coronavirus cases in the Gulf rose to 2290 in the gulf region.

United Arab Emirates on Wednesday announced 85 new coronavisurs infections, bringing the total number of cases in the Emirates to 333. Seven people have been discahrged, taking the total number of recovered cases in the UAE to 52 onWednsday, according to the official spokesperson of the UAE health sector, Dr. Farida Al Hosani.

Qatar on Wednesday confirmed 11 new cases, taking the total to 537, making it the second worst- hit country in the Gulf, behind Saudi Arabia. The total number of people tested for COVID-19 by the Ministry of Public Health has now reached 12,258.

Four new coronavirus cases were registered in the state of Kuwait, bringing the total infection to 195, the Ministry of Health said on Wednesday. Oman on Wednesday confirmed 15 new coronavirus infection, taking the total infections in the Sultanate to 94. The capital city, Muscat, registered the highest number of coronavirus cases in the country with 70 patients out of the total 99 cases, according to Oman News Agency (ONA).

This deadly pathogen was first detected in December in Wuhan, China, the epicentre of the global outbreak, according to WHO. The virus, known officially as COVID-19, has since spread to every continent except Antarctica, and the World Health Organisation has declared the outbreak a global health emergency and called it as pestilence.
