Thiruvananthapuram :  The CPI(M)  came down down heavily against charging  UAPA, on  the two students arrested from Kozhikode and in a press release issued by the district secretary, added that , turning the incident into anti-Left govt propoganda is politically motivated.

CPI(M) is of the view that it is wrong to have charged UAPA against these youths.

When the Union govt first brought out the UAPA law, CPI(M) had vehemently opposed it as a draconian one.

After the arrests, chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan sought detailed explaination from DGP, on the incident.

After coming to power, LDF has consistently intervened to prevent police from clamping UAPA on people.

No person can be wrongly punished under Left rule, concluded the CPI(M)  press release.

Two student activists  in their early 20s, were arrested in Kozhikode on Friday, 1 Novt,  under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA) for allegedly having some pro-Maoist pamplets and brochures with them.
