Thiruvananthapuram :  The CPI(M)  came down heavily against charging  UAPA on  Kozhikode students arrested Friday. The party district secretary, in a press release today added that,  propaganda turning the whole incident against  Left govt, is politically motivated.

CPI(M) is of the view that it is wrong to have charged UAPA against these youths.

When the Union govt first brought out the UAPA law, CPI(M) had vehemently opposed it as a draconian one.

In the present case,   when the news of arrests broke, chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan sought detailed explaination from DGP, on the incident.

After coming to power, LDF has consistently  attempted  to prevent police from clamping UAPA on people.

No person can be wrongly punished under Left rule, he CPI(M)  press release concluded..

Two student activists  in their early 20s, were arrested in Kozhikode on Friday, 1 Nov,  under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA) for allegedly having some pro-Maoist pamplets and brochures with them.
