Palakkad: Backdoor appointments also contributed to public resentment for Oomen Chandy government, said Opposition leader Ramesh Chennithala at a press meet he called during his “Aiswary Keralam Yatra”. He was responding to media question on 175 out-of-the-way appointments made at Palakkad Medical College during UDF tenure and now identified by Vigilance. Ministers’ style of functioning at that time too paved way for fall of Oomen Chandy government, said Chennithala in context.
The Opposition leader was however evasive on the question asking if he felt a need for ordinance to bypass SC’s Ayodhya verdict given that UDF had declared it would bring out law to conserve Sabarimala tradition on women’s entry. Ayodhya was not a Kerala issue, said Chennithala in his response. .
At the meet, Chennithala did a u-turn on his earlier proclaimation that KIIFB was infeasible. KIIFB will not be scrapped if UDF returns to power, said Chennithala adding that, he never said KIIFB was infeasible. KIIF-like establishments are crucial for states like Kerala; KIIFB was launched by UDF government; It is only irregularities at KIIFB that I spoke about, said Chennithala.
Oomen Chandy realised he made a mistake in his view on Hagia Sophia and offered apology subsequently. The matter ends there, Chennithala said responding to another query thereof.
