Thiruvananthapuram: The Palayam Imam VP Suhaib Maulavi said Uniform Civil Code is opposed to fundamental rights. Imam’s words came addressed during Eid message in Thiruvananthapuram. Uniform Civil Code runs against the country’s pluralism and its diversity. The Central government must withdraw decision to implement it, the Imam said.
Uniform Civil Code affects right to live as per one’s faith. The Muslims’ opposition to this law is in the interests of their faith. This kind of legislation creates distress for faith and life, the Imam added.
The Civil Code violates fundamental rights guaranteed by the Constitution and the Constitution itself, said Imam, reiterating that, the Centre should pull back from this.
Context : Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently announced the government will implement Uniform Civil Code in the Country.
