Thiruvananthapuram: The state finance department has allowed Rs 3,03,48,000 toward Snehasparsham - the scheme from Social Security Mission for the welfare of unwed single mothers in the state., Health Minister KK Shailaja told media on Thursday.
Unmarried women who fall prey to exploitation and become mothers are ostracised by their families and the society, making life extraordinarily difficult. Snehasparsham offers financial assistance to such women for their day-to-day needs and rehabilitate them for a steadier life.
Monthly social security for this section stood at Rs 1000 per month earlier and was increased to Rs 2000 pm after the current government came to power. Also such monthly remittance was limited to members of SC/ST community earlier but now includes all destitute women in the category following amends brought about by this govt.
