Kasaragod : Union Minister V Muraleedharan was hailed with boos from students. The incident took place in Kasaragod Central University when the minister embarked on a pro-Modi speech. Muraleedharan had arrived to give away Ph.D certificates at the 6th convocation ceremony.
Muraleedharan began by saying Prime Minister Narendra Modi had keen concern for the students and youth of the country, the reason why he constantly interacts with students via “Mann Ki Baat”, “Pareeksha Pe Charcha” etc. The tipping point came when Muraleedharan said, Prime Minister inspires courage in students for them to face challenges . Boos rose from all corners following this. . Most part of Muraleedharan’s speech was in praise of the BJP government or Modi. The official convocation event thus turned to more of political campaign.
Union Minister of State for Education Subhas Sarkar inaugurated the convocation ceremony. No people’s representatives from Kerala including ministers, MPs and MLAs were invited to the function. There now is reportedly protest demonstrations on campus for having allowed convocation ceremony to become a platform for politics.
